making it

I had a lot of crap thrown at my fan in the last two weeks at school. But it's calming down now. Thank goodness. I couldn't take much more! It's TAKS blitz time- so all we do is taks prep for two weeks then we have the week of tests. Then all pressure is off (Taks is the epitome of the year).

Now I'm trying to gear up for Cali- get in shape and be ready to have an awesome summer!

My apartment is now yellow outside! They finally painted. Bright. Cheery.

Rich Teachers

Yes, it's true that teachers don't get paid as much as most people even though our job is important, time consuming, and something that not everyone could do (anyone wanna teach physics? yeah, didn't think so). But, I find that I am not in the least bit inhibited by my salary! I have zero credit card balance, my student loans are almost paid off (they will be this summer), my car has been paid off for a couple years now, I own everything in my apartment, and I have nice things. And I've earned it all. My assets just keep increasing month to month! I am glad for parents who taught me how to live well off of a modest salary. My parents were amazing in how they saved money and spent it. I never ever went without. They bought me my own bassoon for goodness-sake! They have taught me well.

It is possible to be a rich teacher. :)

(not to forget being non-monetarily rich for the work we do)

NASA job!!!!!!!

I got the summer job I wanted!!! NASA INSPIRE is a program for high schoolers to intern at NASA sites. I get to help out at the JET PROPULSION LABORATORY! (JPL for short). It's in Pasadena, California! What a treat! I get to be there ALL summer!!!!!!!!!!! The kids have to work and I chaperone them on off-work hours. Room-board-flights-gas-car-fun activities---the whole shabang. And $9000. Dang! I have to train in Oklahoma for a week right after school is out then my stint in Cali starts June 22nd (8 weeks).

I am so happy! What an experience that'll be.

Anyone want to babysit my cat for 2 months? He needs people to be around!

Busiest Weekend Ever!

Maybe I've had busier but it doesn't seem like it! It's been an awesome busy weekend! For one, we've had a dating contest in the ward and it's currently girls' choice so I'm all over that! Plus there is just tons to do in Houston!

Friday evening started with one of my Distance Learning (DL) events at Space Center- taught some 3rd and 4th graders about the Solar System. I hardly feel like an expert but I really love doing those events! Then I met up with Lucki, Stephen, and Brent to see Duplicity at the Star Cinema Grill (movie and dinner!). The movie was confusing! And we wished it would've ended differently! Lucki and Stephen hated it. lol. I heart them.

Saturday started with Four Square at the church. Did you ever play that in the MTC? Man, we rocked four square hard core in the MTC. I was downtown all day, and had subsequent clothing changes throughout the day! I was gone from 9 am till almost 1 am the next day! Told you I was busy. Got subs with friends after the intense four squaring and then Brent and I went to the convention center to check out the robotics competion. Yes, we are nerds. I have about 8 kiddos in the competition. It was pretty crazy to see this 'nerdy sports' event. Lots of energy! And lots of smarts! We were impressed. Then we hung out at Discovery park and admired the sailboats, fountains, and the lovely day (despite the slight wind). That park rocks! I totallly want to spend more time there!

Oh, now that was just until about 4 or so! I picked up Mac some food (what a needy cat, jk) and also found a gift for Gail. She's so easy to buy for and I found something so pretty! Can't wait for an excuse to give it to her! :) Then I met up with Spencer. He is one cool guy! I did get scolded for not knowing Led Zeppeblin, but hey. ;) We went out to Ruggles and then went to see Amanda's impressive orchestra concert...then went country dancing! Whew. I think the best part of this whole dating this is just getting to know these great guys better and becoming better friends with them! That just makes me happy. I love friends!

I definitely slept in as long as I possibly could this morning. Gosh, I'm tired! I have a busy Monday, too. Grades are due and I still have to grade my AP Tests (which I don't even have half of them yet due to robotics) and it's a new unit starting (which I got the copies for just don't know my exact plan of attack). And tomorrow I have another DL event AND a study session with my AP kids at 7 pm. And that's just Monday! I have something everynight this week plus a test Saturday early morning, and General Conference. But I think I'm happier going 100 miles an hour.

I should also hear back to see if I got the summer job I want. Shall let you know!

Life's a Beach

I am quite enjoying life these days. Last week was spring break! Which is totally more for the teachers! I think the kids have been on break since Christmas anyways! I got tons done, but the best part was the beach trip with Virginia, Beth, and Heidi. We're all teachers- and now we're all even better friends! Can't complain- those girls rock! We spent two days at Port Aransas- which is near Corpus Christi. My parents would love it there. Heck, anyone would love it there! We spent some lazy, sun filled days on the sand and enjoyed awesome seafood! I had the best coconut shrimp and fried fish ever. so tasty! Plus I got a tan!

It's good to be back at school. I'm also busy with my Distance Learning events at NASA. Speaking of which, I just had a phone interview with NASA INSPIRE program- they need chaperones for their high schoolers at different NASA sites. I would be either here in Houston, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio, or California. And I could start my masters! :) I hope I get it! It'd pretty much be my whole summer, but what an experience!

Other good news- I got a really nice electric keyboard. go craigslist! It's pretty fun. And Mac is less annoying than he's been.

I hate cats

Well, for the record, Mac is officially on my annoying list. He's a pain in the butt. Knocked over a vase and made a mess this morning, so I locked him outside for an hour in the cold (yes, for those of you not in Houston, it is chilly right now. Granted I was poolside Monday...the weather is just weird right now).

And he's not not allowed to interact with guests at my house. Which means locking him in my bedroom. Just because I don't want him to be around my friends (and Stephen suggested it). I refuse to be a crazy cat lady, okay. So don't you dare even think that. I am strong, independent girl who just happens to own a cat.

spring cleaning

I took upon myself the task of organizing everything I have in my apartment! It took me a couple evenings but it feels great! I know where everything is! And I got to throw out a bunch of stuff. And everything just feels nice. No clutter. Not that it was super bad, but improvement is always good. Now I just need to do the actually cleaning. :) Mac got most of his toys back (they were under the stove and fridge). Spoiled cat.

School this week has been super annoying. These kids are so antsy! I just couldn't handle them today. Even my AP class was bad!

I'm sad that some of my students have made bad choices and are in trouble with the law. I care very much for a couple young men that did something really bad (I'm not sure exactly what) and it disappoints me.

I loved the rodeo! The best part was the 4-6 year olds riding sheep! It was hilarious. I enjoyed the bull riding and races, too.

gonna be grand

Thia week is going to be busy but grand. I feel it. Tomorrow I get to attend my favorite gym class- cycling! And then I have an extra study session with my AP kiddos at a pizza place. Tuesday I get to see Rascal Flatts. Now, I couldn't tell you one song he sings nor am I a country fan. I am going because Lucki and Stephen are. Tuesday is also a TAKS testt day, blah. I have my nanotech class Thursday, as always. And Friday I am taking a day off! Whooo hoo! I deserve it. I need it. My kids are driving me crazy, to some extent. I shall go for a bike ride and rest nad do whatever I please. I also have a list of things I need to organize in my apartment- spring cleaning.

Well, maybe grand isn't the rright word. Maybe just plain busy. But that's okay.

Another thought. I love the Mechams. I got to stay at their place last night because of Stake Conference. The conferences were great, I needed to hear those things. April and Brent are so sweet. I need a mom around here, and April is also my friend.

Mac is running around the apartment right now like a chicken with its head cut off, lol. Catnip is cat weed.

wasn't expecting this...

I have wonderful students. However, they always keep me on my toes! This was the latest weird scenario. One of my favorite, funny kids had his phone out so I took it up. I look at it and the wallpaper background is of me and the white board. SHOCK! Was not expecting that! My AP kids one day wanted to take a picture of the board because we worked out this long integral and they thought it was cool, so I let them. And I was up there so I was probably in some photos. That was a few weeks ago! He's had me as his wallpaper since then? Oh man. How embarrassing. I think for both of us. Total teacher crush. Which isn't the first. I'm surprised that these teenagers even think I'm cute. I thought I was their super nerdy, dorky, clumsy "older sister" teacher. lol
