wasn't expecting this...

I have wonderful students. However, they always keep me on my toes! This was the latest weird scenario. One of my favorite, funny kids had his phone out so I took it up. I look at it and the wallpaper background is of me and the white board. SHOCK! Was not expecting that! My AP kids one day wanted to take a picture of the board because we worked out this long integral and they thought it was cool, so I let them. And I was up there so I was probably in some photos. That was a few weeks ago! He's had me as his wallpaper since then? Oh man. How embarrassing. I think for both of us. Total teacher crush. Which isn't the first. I'm surprised that these teenagers even think I'm cute. I thought I was their super nerdy, dorky, clumsy "older sister" teacher. lol

Ants & Cookies

From Tammy on my facebook page----

JENN..........One of my FAVORITE Valentines Day memories includes YOU!!!!! Do you recall a few years ago....tons of sugar cookies.... two insomniacs... and Millions of little black Ants!!!!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE US!!!!!!!

Me either. We were so freakin' funny. We were companions on the mission (Chile) in the last part of our mission. This was February 2006. We made about 150 heart shaped cookies all frosted pink and purdy. We put them out on the coffee table that evening. The next morning there were a million ants crawling all over them!!!!!!!!!!!! EeeewWW! We brushed the ants off and still gave them away! We didn't tell anyone about the ants. Nobody died. lol. Elder Callaway did try to eat one with a heart eraser on it, but that's a whole different problem there!
Happy Valentine's Day!

cool chemistry

I am taking a Nanotechnology class at Rice and this week we made two super cool things!

1. Liquid nano-crystals that change color (they are what you find in crystal thermometers).

2. Ferrofluids (that are nanoparticles of iron that when close to a magnet form into the "shape" of the magnetic field caused by the magnet!)

trying

I'm trying to understand my purpose here. In Houston. At this time in my life. My eternal purpose. I am reading "A Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren. It goes through 40 chapters (you read only one a day) that help you find your purpose in life. It gives you a scripture and questions to ponder for that day. I have a friend who is reading it, so I decided it could do me some good, too. I am trying to see myself as Heavenly Father sees me. I am always---always---so dang hard on myself. I am never happy with myself- even if I am doing good things. It's so easy for me to see what I lack and how I do this and this wrong. I'm trying to change that habit. Baby steps.

ugh!

one more thing to add to my list-

I am now supposed to go to the Friendswood Stake YSA branch. I do NOT want to. So I will continue going to my normal ward and then move in July when my lease is up.

I don't want to move. But I will to go where I want to go. So add apartment (rent) or townhouse (buy) searching to my list of stressful things.

just a few prompts

I have no time these days because of school, Space Center stuff, and all the 101 things I do, so here are a few prompts for next time I get to sit and write. Hopefully this weekend.

Master's Program ideas.
Summer jobs.
Living in Houston.
Feeling content with myself and how I am.... or not.
My insomnia coming back. grrr.
Missing my family.
Feeling huge highs and lows in teaching lately.
Just not being good enough. Period.
How I wish I had more good guy friends.
Exciting stuff I learned at SEEC (Space Exploration Educator's Conference).
Zero G Teacher flights.
$12 tax return.

25 things about me.

1. I used to be quite the actress and singer when I was in elementary school- multiple plays, commercials, and even an instructional video about kids with ADD (I was an actress, thank you!).
2. I love diet coke and cookie dough bites (and cookie dough).
3. I have loved frogs since I was little.
4. I am super clumsy and bruise like a banana.
5. I played the bassoon, piano, tenor sax, sousaphone, clarinet, and trombone (from best to worst).
6. My hair doesn't do anything but be perfectly straight. At least I can't get it to! I also haven't had long hair since freshman year of college. I have had two perms (oh my).
7. I refuse to believe my students have crushes on me. Or add them on facebook.
8. I am skinnier now than I was in high school.
9. I was valedictorian and I still don't think it's a big deal.
10. I wear my heart on my sleeve. It gets me into trouble. Even if I don't mean to!
11. I think women's deodorant should be as good as men's. It's not.
12. Most of my accessories in my place (from my bed to napkin holder) have the black cast iron swirl shape on them.
13. I wonder what my life would be like if I stuck with Chemical Engineering.
14. Two of my best friends are gay. I also had a crush on them at one point before I knew.
15. I always daydream that a guy will bring me flowers.
16. I have a credit card with lipsticks on it.
17. I don't think much about politics although I should.
18. I liked the University of Washington way more than BYU.
19. I used to pretend I was She-Ra, princess of power. I even had a big sword and shield my dad made me.
20. I want to marry a guy as sweet, handy, and smart as my dad. I think that's hard to find.
21. I have two step-sisters that I never claim. I just say I have my little sister, Jessica. I do claim graciously my step-mom, though!
22. I have lived in Spokane, Seattle, Provo, Washington DC (well, Arlington, VA), and now Houston. And Chile for 16 months.
23. I love doing manual labor- from digging trenches for sprinklers to painting. It's so rewarding. I got a good work ethic from my dad.
24. I used to struggle with insomnia for years. I now do not take any sleeping pills! But my cat still has a better internal clock then me (he knows when it's 6am- feeding time!)
25. I save cool recipes, workouts, and ideas from magazines and put them in sheet protectors in binders. I am really organized. Except I rarely make my bed.

Fun with Friends

I have awesome friends. I love them to death! I am one very lucky gal.

Last night Lucki, Stephen, Daniel, and I had dinner and played some intense games of Mille Bornes and Spades. Intense. lol. Like I said, I love my friends!

Then today I went running (well, sorta) with Stephen while Lucki slept (lol). Then I was pretty productive in the cleaning and cooking categories. And then friends came over for dinner! Then we went to see Carousel the musical at my school. Weird musical. Well done, though. And I love my kiddos. Then we had yummy desserts and played Pop 5 and 5 crowns (fives, eh?) and laughed a lot...and at Charles. :) You had to be there I guess.

So thank you to all my dear friends, old(ish) and new. I am glad you are a part of my life! I love how Lucki always give me the real perspective I need and that we just are two peas in a pod. And how Aubrey understands my character and why I do things in a way no one else can. I love that Stephen is so smart and just a good guy model. Whoever I date has to be as nerdy and cool as Stephen. And I love that Andrew always has a compliment and advice for everything. And how any of them will listen to me at any odd hour of the day or night. The list could go on, but that's enough for now. :)
